Energy convention
This folder and Ridgway–Cheviakov Table 3:
Beltrán–Lizarte print . For the pentagonal bipyramid they give , which is , matching Table 3's .
What would count as a beat
A configuration whose independently recomputed is strictly below the first (global) Table 3 entry for that , by more than rounding (), with the points stored and the verifier agreeing. Rathbun–Ridgway's 77-digit refinement of the same table is the sharper form of the same record for .
Independent checks (this folder)
compute/known.py— PASS. Closed forms for matchenergy.pyto . 1:5:1 and icosahedron match Table 3 to the printed 8 decimals.compute/replay_published.py— PASS on Zenodo 5595366log.3.N.80for –. Recomputed equals the fileener=to (N=34 has noener=line). Table 3 globals match to .compute/optimize.py— recovered the same globals at . Fibonacci / spiral / rng recover several of them without published seeds. No energy below the record by more than rounding.- Beltrán–Lizarte printed is . Convention, not a second table.
What we did not beat
- Any Table 3 global, or the Rathbun–Ridgway 77-digit refinement.
- Smale 7 (polynomial-time approximation).
- A published for : Amore–Figueroa–Ramos 2025 explores the landscape to but does not print a record table, and their 591 MB Zenodo dump was not treated as a citation number.
How to replay
cd problems/fekete-s2/compute
sh run_all.sh
Expected: PASS from verify_replay.py, closed-form matches for
–, and checkpoint energies agreeing with energy.py.
If /tmp/fekete-data/rathbun is present, the full –
coordinate replay is re-run; otherwise use the stored
replay_rathbun.json.
