problems/ramsey-r55. Dent = a certified 43-vertex -graph, a nonexistence proof at 45 with an independently checkable log, or a documented residue. Isolated SAT timeouts are not a dent. Search residue is not a bound. - Fetched Radziszowski, Small Ramsey Numbers, revision #18, 24 April 2026, from
https://www.cs.rit.edu/~spr/ElJC/ejcram18.pdf(149 pp, 1066 refs). The E-JC “View PDF” link returned HTML, not the survey. Table Ia lists ; Table Ib repeats the upper bound 46. Item 2.1(e): McKay–Radziszowski conjecture with exactly 656 critical graphs on 42 vertices; Angeltveit–McKay improved the upper bound to 48 then 46; no self-complementary -critical graph [Chv2]. Item 2.1(i): no Table Ia lower bound can be improved by a cyclic graph on fewer than 102 vertices, except possibly some . - Fetched Angeltveit–McKay, , arXiv:2409.15709v2 (1 Sep 2025). The argument is LP on neighbourhood edge-counts plus a ~80 CPU-year gluing census of dense members of for . Degrees in a hypothetical 46-vertex example lie in . This is not a one-machine replay.
- Post-April-2026 screen (arXiv + survey): no later accepted improvement of either endpoint of .

Plan
- Independently verify the 656 graphs are and that none extend by one vertex.
- Exhaust circulants (hence all vertex-transitive graphs of prime order 43) on 43, 44, 45 vertices. Harborth–Krause already imply no cyclic improvement of the lower bound; the census is a checkable residue, not a new bound.
- Search structured 43-vertex families that are not already closed by the cyclic census: involution-symmetric graphs, small edge-flip balls around the 656, Cayley graphs on non-cyclic groups of order 42/44.
- Do not claim a dent from a SAT timeout.

No 43-vertex -graph. No nonexistence proof at 45. Published record still .
Documented residue, independently replayable:

2026-08-29 — q3 order-7 leftover
House unchanged: a timeout or a restriction on a hypothetical automorphism group is residue, not a dent. The published interval remains .
Reused q2's orbit_sat.py without changing its encoding. The six regenerated
maximum-cycle CNFs for orders 2, 3, 5, and 7 match q2's recorded SHA-256
hashes byte for byte. Plain-CDCL five-minute reruns for the maximum-cycle
order-2, order-3, and order-5 representatives remained UNKNOWN.
For an order-7 permutation of type , choose a fixed vertex and let count adjacent 7-cycles. The degree window , complementation (), and relabelling of the fixed vertex reduce all feasible values to these representatives:
| fixed vertices | checked | result | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 36 | 1 | DRAT-UNSAT; covers by complement |
| 2 | 29 | 1, 2 | DRAT-UNSAT; covers by complement |
| 3 | 22 | 1, 3 | DRAT-UNSAT; covers by complement |
| 4 | 15 | 1, 2 | DRAT-UNSAT; covers by complement |
| 5 | 8 | 2 | DRAT-UNSAT; covers by complement |
| 6 | 1 | 3 | 787-case DRUP-UNSAT |
The eight direct representative proofs were independently accepted by the
pinned drat-trim. For , the unique fixed vertex has degree 21 and
its three adjacent cycles induce 21 vertices with no and no independent
5-set. Under q2's existing symmetry breaking there are exactly 787 assignments
to the 30 edge-orbit variables in that neighbourhood. A local DRUP certifies
that enumeration as complete; 787 further DRUPs, one for each full cube, all
verify against the original q2 CNF plus the cube units. Archive and member
hashes are in compute/q3/certs/p7_proofs.json.
Thus no -graph has an automorphism of order 7. With q2's exclusions for primes at least 11, Cauchy's theorem leaves only 2, 3, and 5 as possible prime divisors of the automorphism-group order of a hypothetical graph. This does not move either Ramsey endpoint.
